Yes. If your child is non-oral or non-verbal, you may want to ask the district to contract with a non-oral communications specialist to do an assessment, such as an Assistive Technology (AT) or Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ACC) assessment. Depending on the results of the assessment, the IEP team may decide that your child needs specialized services such as a computerized communications device and instruction in using this device in order to benefit from special education.
