You have three main options, which are explained more fully in Chapter 6 of this manual. If your child has been bullied due to their disability, you may file a complaint with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the U.S. Department of Education against your school district. See Question 6.19 through 6.22 in Chapter 6 of this manual for more information on filing an OCR complaint. You may also file a compliance complaint with the California Department of Education (CDE) alleging that the bullying has caused safety risks interfering with your child’s receipt of an appropriate education under their IEP. See question 6.4 through 6.11 in Chapter 6 for more information on filing a compliance complaint. Moreover, you can file a local investigation complaint with your school district under Uniform Compliance Procedures (UCP). See questions 6.12 through 6.17 of Chapter 6 of this manual for more information on filing a UCP complaint.
