School health services are services provided by a qualified school nurse or other qualified person. These services include health and nursing services such as:
- Managing a student’s health problems on the school site;
- Consulting with students, parents/guardians/other education rights holders, teachers, and others;
- Counseling with parents/guardians/other education rights holders and students concerning health problems; and
- Providing specialized physical health care services which are necessary during the school day to enable the child to attend school.[1]
California law defines specialized physical health care services to include “catheterization, tube feeding, suctioning, or other services that require medically related training.”[2]
